A brief information on Haitian Institute of Health and Environment (HIHE)
The Haitian Institute of Health and Environment (HIHE) is a learned society created in 2010 on the initiative of researchers and Environmental Health professionals as a non-profit organization at Queensland University Haiti after the earthquake of magnitude 7.5 which devastated Haiti. The association's ambition is to be the space where knowledge, know-how and know-how can be reconciled.
Haiti faces a serious environmental and health problem, when it rains, we do not need to have even 2 minutes of rain to have a flood in Haiti with thousands of victims.
Made up of 7 elected members, the Board deliberates and decides on general orientations, relations with other stakeholders in Environmental Health as well as sources of financing. Operational decisions are made by the IHSE office. It is made up of a President, a Vice-President, a General Secretary, a Treasurer and a General Delegate. e for international relations and 2 Advisors.
A global approach
At the crossroads of disciplines as varied as toxicology, epidemiology, expology, chemistry, medicine, human and social sciences, law and management, Environmental Health cannot do without a global approach. It is no longer a question of artificially bringing together two neighboring areas of interest, but of understanding their interactions in the light of all these disciplines.
One ambition: to reconcile knowledge, know-how and know-how in a holistic vision
The HIHE has given itself a broad mission:
- Promote research and develop prevention;
- Ensure the dissemination of knowledge;
- Intervene in public policy decisions based on the most recent scientific knowledge, particularly on emerging risks;
- Network different actors to bring together complementary approaches and contrasting sensitivities.

Number of members
The Haitian Institute of Health and Environment (HIHE) currently has 25 members because the others are forced to leave Haiti to go to other countries because of acts of kidnapping carried out by armed gangs.

Board members
The Board of Directors is made up of 7 members, elected for four years at the ordinary general meeting. Three positions are reserved for “natural person” members and two positions reserved for “legal entity” members. The IHSE office is made up of 5 people elected for three years from among the existing administrators from the “natural persons” college.
