The School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences (SASSS) at Queensland University (UQ) brings together researchers and students from the Haitian community, the Caribbean community and around the world with the aim of bringing together all science disciplines social to understand societies in their complexity. It is unique in the Caribbean academic field both because of its intellectual project and thanks to its research training model, its national and international roots and its openness to Caribbean society.
An atypical establishment, the School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences (SASSS) at Queensland University (UQ) embodies the intellectual project of a permanent dialogue between all the human and social sciences. Based on learning through research, its training relies on a dense network of researchers and institutions from the Caribbean community and around the world, and on deep links with civil society.
The School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences (SASSS) at Queensland University (UQ) is distinguished by its governance model which gives a central role to the assembly of teacher-researchers elected by their peers. It is headed by a Dean whose action is based on an administration serving the major missions of the establishment. Scientific activity is supported by an ecosystem of 20 research units and centers at Queensland University (UQ) Haiti.
The Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology
Benefit from training focused on contemporary issues in societies and cultures from different regions of the Caribbean and the world. You will be able to analyze social and cultural issues in various fields, develop your critical sense, your ability to synthesize, and writing and communication skills. The expertise acquired, particularly in qualitative methods, will allow you to contribute to dialogue between human groups and to work within multidisciplinary teams and in varied environments in working-class neighborhoods where armed gangs thrive in Haiti.

History and mission
History
Founded in September 1996, the Department of Social Work, as it was originally called, received in 2000, by decision of the High Council of the Queensland University (HCUQ), the status of a Graduate School attached to the Faculty of Social Sciences at Queensland University (UQ).
From 2017 to 2020, the School of Social Work and Criminology (ETSC) at the University of Queensland (UQ) was affiliated with the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) www.iassw-aiets.org and the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) www.ifsw.org via Haitian Association of Social Workers (HASW / AHATRAS). These organizations have long served as a liaison between leading schools of social work and international social workers by guaranteeing the value of degrees awarded by educational institutions that meet its accreditation standards.
The School of Social Work and Criminology (SSWC) at Queensland University (UQ) currently offers degree programs in social work, gerontology and criminology. She also participates in the teaching and direction of several other faculty and multidisciplinary programs, notably in aging studies, feminist studies, and violence studies.
As an extension of these programs, the expansion efforts of the School of Social Work and Criminology at Queensland University (UQ) are primarily focused on applied research in the areas of specialization offered in the level programs graduated. This research continues in collaboration with numerous organizations in the institutional and community social services sector, and also in partnership with other university departments and with other schools of social work in the international world.
Our school is very interested in the development of social service professionals. It contributes to this by organizing various activities: study days, conferences, courses open to independent students and courses offered as part of continuing education, specific methods of recognition of acquired knowledge by graduates in Techniques of social work.
Assignment
The School of Social Work and Criminology at the Queensland University (UQ) contributes to the training of competent and reflective professionals and researchers with keen critical and ethical senses who will become agents of change for well-being people and communities here and elsewhere. It participates in the community through knowledge mobilization activities, continuing training, and support for development and innovation with private and public, parapublic and community organizations in Haiti.

The School of Social Work and Criminology (SSWC) at the Queensland University (UQ) and Haitian Association of Social Workers (HASW/AHATRAS) are involved in several international and national collaborative projects, developed in close collaboration with the School of Social Work and Criminology (ETSC) from the Queensland University (UQ) affiliated to the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) www.iassw-aiets.org and the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) www.ifsw.org via Haitian Association of Social Workers (HASW/AHATRAS). Queensland University (UQ) attaches great importance to this dimension of exchange and openness to national and international environments in relation to the university functions of teaching, research and community services.
All cooperation activities cover three areas within the School of Social Work and Criminology at Queensland University (UQ).
The training of students of Haitian and foreign origin who come to Haiti to write research projects or their doctoral theses at Queensland University (UQ).
