Health and Sustainable Development (SDD)
The Pan-African-Caribbean Institute for Sustainable Development (PACISD) at the Queensland University (UQ) is a Caribbean institution with not-for-profit status. It was founded in 2015 with the aim of contributing to the sustainable development of the Caribbean and Africa by promoting grassroots sustainable development.
PACISD-UQ carries out training, research and support-consultation activities in Haiti and the Caribbean.
PACISD-UQ seeks to promote integrated and participatory sustainable development of rural and urban populations in Haiti and the Caribbean. PACISD-UQ is dedicated to the training of trainers and conducts action-oriented field studies, the development and evaluation of projects for different partners; it develops training programs and educational tools and publishes the results of its work. In terms of training and consultation, it can provide support to organizations that contribute to the promotion of local, regional and national development through information, leadership and participation of the populations concerned.
Presentation
Health and Sustainable Development Training Unit (HSDTU)
The Health and Sustainable Development Training Unit (HSDTU), lasting four months, is offered each year at PACISD-UQ and leads to the Certificate of End of Training. Each of the two modules can be followed separately.
Goals
HSDTU has three objectives:
- Lead participants to think about health and sustainable development problems from a global development perspective,
- Help participants acquire skills allowing them to mobilize communities in favor of health and sustainable development, to train other agents in Health and Sustainable Development,
- Allow participants to acquire the technical methods and tools for developing and managing a training program in health and sustainable development.
Target audience
Health and Sustainable Development is aimed at three categories of stakeholders:
- Traditional health personnel, doctors, midwives, nurses, etc.
- Social workers: educators, social workers, etc.

- Development agents: agricultural monitors and extension workers, secular and faith-based facilitators, project supervisors. Teachers, heads of provincial, regional or departmental technical services, heads of associations, NGOs, etc.
Conditions of admission
- Hold positions of responsibility in the areas of health, nutrition, social affairs, rural development, community development, etc.
- Be proposed by a user organization
- Fulfill the required conditions.
